Review 6/12/2008
I want to respond to some of the comments made by some of the graduates of the College of Automotive.
I’ve been a manager and owner of New car dealerships for more than 12 years. During that time I have hired numerous College of Automotive Management (CAM or College) graduates as F&I Managers and in other management or sales positions at my dealerships. Contrary to what some have stated on this BBB web site, I know that CAM has helped hundreds obtain careers in F&i without any prior automotive experience, but it is not CAM's responsibility if they get hired. It is theirs.
I have hired many CAM graduates as F&I managers . Most did not have any prior automotive sales experience or F&i experience, and as a rule performed better than non CAM graduates that were experienced. I have not hired all CAM graduates that have applied for F&I positions (or for sales positions). I have chose not to hire some of them due to their personality, attitudes, how they conducted themselves in the interviews, not showing up for the interview on time, or due to their previous track record at other employers, etc.
I do however prefer to hire only candidates who are graduates of the College of Automotive Management , in regards to any position I am looking to fill . I recommend however that anyone wanting to get hired into F&I first have “successful” automotive sales experience , even though I have hired and seen many people who have succeeded in F&I without selling cars first after attending training at the College.
I also know of many other hiring managers and/or dealership owners who feel the same way I do in regard to potential new employees and hiring graduates of the College. I know from first hand experience that The College has the most comprehensive training program for sales, internet or F&I available in California, but if a person is successful it is the person and what they are willing to do with that information that really makes the difference in regard to success or failure – and the College teaches that also. I myself am a graduate of the College and have been able to quickly advance my career and purchase my own dealerships using the information I learned from the College, which included most importantly, do what is right by all parties, do what is ethical, honest and legal and love your customers. Not everyone is willing to do what it takes to put that into practice. But how can anyone who really is willing to do that fail? I prefer to hire College of Automotive Management graduates for all my sales, internet and F&I positions when possible (ie. When I can interview a candidate who understands and is willing to do what it takes to be successful.)
