I need to know if CUCAS China University Study Program is for real or a scam?

I am a Canadian expat living in China and every time that go through a university campus or even near one, some young Chinese person will hand me a brochure that tells me I can study for free in China through a program called CUCAS. When I ask how it can be free, they tell me that CUCAS is a government agency that is part of the Ministry of Education and that they get paid by the government to find and recruit foreign students. So when I went into the admissions office of Peking University and asked them for information on the "CUCAS Program" the people in the office just started laughing and asked me how much money I paid to CUCAS? When I said none, they asked me if I paid any money to another company called "Beijing ChiWest". When I said "No" they told me I was lucky and told me to avoid CUCAS and ChiWest. What is going on here? Cucas has a very professional looking web-site and a 4 year history with an office in Shang Di, Beijing. I am told their President is a Harvard graduate. Can I deal with this company safely or is it some sort of scam?

University V: I agree that the website looks professional, but if you were promised free education, the first thing I noticed when going on the website was the tab, "Services & Fees" Yep. To good to be true always is. Who knows how they get people sucked in, I am just glad you didn't.

The CUCAS China University Study Program also has opportunities for instrumentalists, so even though you may not be interested in singing, it's never too late to join our team! Since we're all about making music together (and having fun!), then come out and explore the world of choruses with us on Friday nights at 7pm at East High School. https://www.edugeeksclub.com/blog/top-5-trusted-review-websites-help-choose/
